Chitosan is a natural polymer made from the alkaline hydrolysis of chitin that comes from the outer skeleton of shellfish, including crab, lobster, and shrimp.
Vegan chitosan derived from the fungus Aspergillus niger.
Chitosan may have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and wound healing properties.
Uses of chitosan:
- Obesity: It might reduce absorption of fat and cholesterol from foods.
- Hypertension
- Bleeding: When applied over wound, prevent bleeding
- Recovery after surgery: Applying a chitosan gel might help prevent scar formation in the sinuses after surgery
- Dental plaques: It is effective in controlling plaque and gingival inflammation
